About 730 children in Valenzuela City got their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine at the start of the vaccination rollout for kids with ages five to 11 years old on Feb. 7, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

The city conducted the vaccinations in two sites dedicated only for the kids — Pasolo Elementary School and Malinta Elementary School.

The local government said that it has adorned the sites (both can accommodate up to 500 kids per day) with colorful and child-friendly animal characters.

There were also free hotdogs and snacks for the kids, while doctors, nurses and other staff wore “kiddy headdresses” and costumes to make the children comfortable.

The city also provided the kids with stuffed toys and loot backs which contain random stuff like candies, stamps, mini-coloring books, educational toys and other giveaways.

The kids were vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine, which is the only brand approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its lower dosage and concentration.

Dr. Ma. Nieves Elizabeth Cruz, Valenzuela City vaccine coordinator, said that there is nothing to worry about the kids’ vaccination as it is proven effective against COVID-19 and has minimal side effects compared to the brands given to the adults.

The local government reminded that the vaccination for the said age group is strictly by appointment and that parents or guardians can register their children online: valtrace.appcase.net.

It added that there are around 10, 300 minors who have already registered to get their COVID-19 jabs as of Monday, Feb. 7.
